Penhaligon's

THOUSAND NOSE

Our story begins with our founder,

William Penhaligon.

A humble Cornish barber who rose to the royal court and trimmed the beard of the Shah of Persia!

1837

William Penhaligon opens his barber shop in Jermyn Street and proceeds to cut the hair of many bright young men of Mayfair (London)

1870

William H. Penhaligon was born on January 27, and then spent his formative years in Madron. Here, this formidable dreamer hatches his own plan to achieve success as a nose and as an expert barber!

1872

William creates his first fragrance, Hammam Bouquet, inspired by Turkish baths. Exotic, exciting.

It causes a stir and its customers start asking for more...

Walter Penhaligon, son of William, inherits the family business and continues to amaze society with his concoctions, so much so that he was commissioned to create the iconic Belnheim Bouquet for the 9th Duke of Malborough

Penhaligon receives the first royal mandates, becoming very popular all over the world and opening flagship stores where customers could buy their perfumes directly

Respect for tradition lives on today in each of Penhaligon's exclusive fragrances. A respect which, however, does not fail to update itself on new olfactory horizons, when necessary.
